Larrakia Homes Pty Ltd

Since its inception in 2006, Larrakia Homes has come a long way. Larrakia Homes is a business arm of the Larrakia Development Corporation and was created to enter into the growing residential construction industry with a mission to employ, manage, and train Larrakia and other indigenous personnel in commercial contract building works

After just over twelve months of operations, Larrakia Homes entered into three categories of the prestigious 2007 Housing Industry Awards (HIA); Best Spec Home up to $350,000, Best Commercial Project and Best Kitchen Project up to $15,000.

Larrakia Homes were thrilled to win not only all three categories entered into, but also received the major category award of overall winner for Best Spec Home.

Larrakia Environmental Services Pty Ltd

Larrakia Environmental Services is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Larrakia Development Corporation.

This business provides an opportunity for Larrakia and other indigenous people to actively participate in landscaping management and development activities.

The business complements the Corporation’s 4000 square metre Turf Farm venture at Palmerston which will employ four Larrakia who will require a Certificate 1 or 2 in horticulture as the minimum employment criteria.

Larrakia Environmental Services has been engaged on a number of contracts in Darla, complementing Larrakia Homes.

Cox Peninsula Enterprises Pty Ltd

Cox Peninsula Enterprises have a transport division supply a reliable and safe transportation method to the people of Waigait and Belyuen.

Cox Peninsula Enterprises supply Cycads to both individuals and company's seeking to enhance their gardens with one of the world's most prehistoric plants. The plants are harvested by Larrakia and other aboriginal people from Belyuen and are tagged recoded in line with the Parks permit.

Cox Peninsula Enterprises are currently in the process of developing a 20 hectare parcel of land into a modern Caravan and tourist park to cater for the many "GREY" nomads and people from Darwin seeking a break from City life.

Larrakia Turf Farm Pty Ltd

The Turf Farm is a joint venture between the Larrakia Development Corporation and Wolpers Grahl

The farm is around 10 hectares but only half of that has been operating since its inception in 2003. However, after four years of negotiations with PowerWater, the Turf Farm now has access to the end pond at the neighbouring Palmerston Sewerage Facility. This will bring the remaining five hectares into operation and enable the Farm to switch from its present town water supply to the cost-efficiencies and conservation properties of this new source of effluent water.

To date the Farm has generated over 40 hectares of quality Turf, supplying its parent companies, Larrakia Environmental Services and Wolpers Grahl, as well as Palmerston City Council. It offers the three popular varieties of Turf: Broad Leaf Buffalo, Bermuda Couch and Lime Light Companion.

Saltwater Constructions (NT) Pty Ltd

Saltwater Constructions (NT), a fully owned subsidiary of the Larrakia Development Corporation, was created to establish a steel fabrication, construction and property maintenance business.

This venture has had positive results especially amongst Government and the private sector, proof that Larrakia (Aboriginal) people can match it in the commercial market place.

Saltwater Constructions (NT) Pty Ltd is managed by Mr Jeffery May , a licence builder and qualified welder.

Jeff has a extensive experience in the building and construction sector in Darwin. Jeff has a developed a strong team of other Larrakia and other Aboriginal tradesman around him and is tendering on jobs such as Defence, NT, Federal and local Government and the private sector.

Saltwater Constructions AIM in developing younger Larrakia and other Aboriginal people has resulted in a new addition to their team, 20 year old Caleb Wanganeen.

Caleb, a born and bred Larrakia responded to the advertised position of an entry-level Trades Assistant. After a successful interview and qualifying period, Caleb was signed up as a Metals and Engineering Apprentice under Australian Apprenticeships - through the Australian and NT Governments. His apprenticeship is competency base and he has up to three years to complete the Certificate III in Engineering and Light Fabrication.

Saltwater Constructions (NT) recent move to their new premises at Albatross Street in Winnellie after buying out an existing fabrication business has greatly assisted in improving the capacity within their growing client base.

Saltwater Constructions (NT) maintenance division is also expanding which if what is planned in the future this division will offer more employment opportunities for new apprentices.
